Saorview is the name given to the national television service in Ireland owned and operated by RTE which is Ireland’s state broadcaster. This is a digital terrestrial service that begun operating in 2010 and was fully launched in early 2011 after RTE ended the transmission of the preview analogue terrestrial service. RTE claim that Saorview is available to 98% of the population of Ireland via 64 national transmitters throughout the country. The service is DVB-5/MPEG-4 HD so you will need a DVB-T receiver box in order to get the channels in your home.
Freesat is the name given to the UK free to air channels which runs on DVB-S so if you would like to receive both the UK free to air (freesat) channels and Saorview on the same box then you will need what is known as a Saorview combo box. We highly recommend getting a Saorview combo box as having one of these boxes will allow you to access all of the freesat and Saorview channels seamlessly on the one box. We keep all of our Saorview boxes in stock here in Ireland to ensure we have fast nationwide shipping.
